Keep Your Instagram Account Relevant With These Changes

In a bid to keep up with TikTok and YouTube, Instagram has once again changed their algorithm and this is going to drastically affect how your content goes viral. If you want to ensure that your posts go viral organically in the future and are seen by a lot of users, you need to make sure that they comply with these new changes.

  1. 3 #Hashtags Minimum

Gone are the days of 30 hashtags minimum in order to lasso your audience in and gain a wider reach. With the rise on bot and spam accounts instagram have brought in a 3 hashtag minimum rule. Now if you add more than three it won’t mean your account will get suspended but it may mean your post is kept invisible to a broader reach. To choose the right hashtags, think target audience, locale and subject matter.

  1. Reel Topics

As we all know short form content is reigning supreme when it comes to brand awareness. We’re not sure if Instagram is trying to phase out hashtags altogether but one new feature has been added when it comes to uploading reels and this is the use of ‘Topics’. When you upload a reel there is an option to add a tag related to the content matter. If you have a business account when you edit your profile you may or may not know that you have the option of adding what category of business you operate. Topics works in the same way.

  1. Edit Your Reels In App

Since Facebook and Meta took over Instagram they have changed the platform drastically. Some changes for the better but a lot of their changes are detrimental for Instagram’s longevity. Instagram incorporating Reels has been a way to compete with TikTok and stay relevant. Instagram recently have stated that reels should be edited in app and if you’re anything like us you will know how buggy and annoying Instagram’s video editing tools can be. If you edit videos on external apps such as Capcut or Youcut the video is at risk of the invisibility bracket or so they say. This could definitely be a ploy to keep users spending more time on the app.

  1. Use Instagram Music Only

Once again this applies to reels but Instagram will not display your videos if music has been added externally. This is to promote the viral music in app which in one sense is great for the artists but as you all know for business accounts especially, you are limited to your choice of music within the app. Another quick tip is to choose music that shows the amount of reels it is used in.

  1. Post 6 Stories Daily

This is Instagram’s biggest ploy to increase user engagement time. Instagram will boost your account if you are posting 6 stories a day. This means 2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon/evening and 2 at night. It’s excessive but to improve your chances of boosting your account organically these are the new expectations of Instagram’s content creators.

What do you make of these changes? Do you think Instagram’s days are numbered?
