Improve Your Social Media Copy

Want to improve your social media copy? It can get overwhelming managing numerous social media platforms and more often than not we fall into the copy and paste formula when it comes to posts. Remember to create posts that add value to your target audience. Then create the perfect copy by remembering the following;

TikTok

Even though the platform recently introduced long-form videos, unless you have thousands of loyal followers it's important to keep your content short and engaging. This goes for the captions ... less is more. Keep it punchy and engaging. While there's no strict minimum requirement for hashtags on TikTok, incorporating 3-5 relevant hashtags can boost discoverability and reach. Consider including hashtags that reflect the content of your video, your target audience, and your niche to attract the right viewers.

Instagram

Instagram could well champion back to being everyone's favourite platform in 2024. So it's definitely worth spending time to create the best captions for your posts and reels. 3 - 5 relevant hashtags per post. However, if you're concerned about cluttering your caption, Instagram allows for up to 30 hashtags if placed within the first comment. Experiment with a mix of popular and niche-specific hashtags to strike the perfect balance between discoverability and relevance. Remember Instagram has also brought in 'Topics', so for qualifying posts, remember to use those.

Facebook

Facebook favours a mix of long and short form content and captions. So remember to mix it up. Keep it simple for videos when it comes to hashtags by incorporating 2-3 relevant hashtags into your caption. Make use of Facebook's content planner to figure out best times to post and the best hashtags to use. This also works well if you use Facebook to post on Instagram too.

LinkedIn

For LinkedIn avoid lengthy worded posts and inject relevant emojis that emphasise key information. It's still recommended to use 3 hashtags per post so choose your hashtags wisely to maintain a professional tone while enhancing discoverability. Target audience, niche, relevance.

YouTube

YouTube offers ample opportunities for discoverability through caption description and hashtags. Keep the body of the description short and include relevant links and info. Add relevant hashtags. There is no minimum but try not to go overboard. You can use YouTube studio to add more information where necessary. For YouTube shorts treat your title as your caption, use short hook phrases and add 2 - 3 hashtags including #shorts

Twitter or X

Unless your paying Twitter/X membership, there is a still a character limit on what you can post. Get to the point as quickly as possible. Get used to writing your message one sentence. You can use hashtags on Twitter but as long as your including keywords in your copy that complement the content of your tweet this will enhance the discoverability of your tweets and hopefully lead to more engagement.

Bonus tip! Remember to check your insights and analytics. If a post didn't create as many impressions don't just put it down to being a bad post. Social media is saturated and there is no perfect formula to gaining more engagement or followers. This goes for paid campaigns too.
