How Strikes & Politics Affect Ecommerce?

‍Strikes

‍

As many of you may be aware, here in the UK, we have experienced a number of strikes that have disrupted the daily goings on of most businesses. The most prominent of these being the Royal Mail strikes. Many businesses rely on Royal Mail to provide reliable shipping to their customers. When Royal Mail goes on strike it can cause a number of issues for any business from delayed shipping to disgruntled customers.

‍

The best way to navigate this is to inform your customers as soon as possible of any upcoming Royal Mail strikes. Transparency is key when building brand awareness. Look into alternative carriers such as DPD or Evri and provide these as a shipping option to your customers.

‍

Politics

‍

No doubt our recent political drama has had a huge impact on the economy. Thankfully the newly elected PM Rishi Sunak, has helped to stabilise the economy to some degree but with more tax cuts and rises to be announced it is important that businesses pay attention to political news, the markets and how these could affect your business from importing to shipping.

‍

The cost of living crisis has seen a substantial rise in a number of areas and it is important that businesses reevaluate their finances and operations to ensure economic sustainability in the face of an impending recession.Β

‍

It shouldn’t be all doom and gloom however as recessions can present valuable opportunities to a business provided sufficient research has been taken. This is an ample time for UK manufacturing and business to take advantage of the economic climate.

‍

Q4 2022

‍

Marketing is key when it comes to business. Make sure you are taking advantage of every avenue of marketing as best you can. Digital marketing is definitely the way forward and in more instances proves to be a lot more cost effective than traditional routes of marketing. Email lists, social media presence, a good website all play a part in using digital marketing to successfully promote your services and products. Really amp up your marketing where possible and leave no stone unturned. Of course, it is all too tempting to cut marketing budgets especially in these times but this can be detrimental to a business long term so perhaps slim down any unnecessary marketing material and head online. Paid ads such as Google Ads or Facebook Ads etc should be scrutinised to see if conversion rates add up but if you find your ads are paying off … then keep them especially for this Q4.
